King Business Interiors was founded by Darla and Dave King in 1998. With more than 20 years in the commercial furniture industry, Darla takes a hands-on role throughout the business. She leads customer service, sales, manufacturer relations, corporate planning, and day-to-day employee management. Dave takes the reins as CFO on the financial components of the business including budgeting, forecasting, planning, and daily business operations.

Darla King, President and CEO of King Business Interiors has been in the contract office furniture business for more than 20 years. In November 1998, she formed King Business Interiors, a woman-owned commercial office furniture and flooring company serving the Greater Central Ohio area. Darla has grown the company from a 5-person start-up to an established business with more than 49 employees serving hundreds of clients in numerous industries.

In 2008, Darla was named as a "Woman to Know" by Business First Columbus, was recognized by NAWBO-Columbus as one of four "Visionary Award" finalists, and was a finalist for the Columbus Chamber's Small Business Leader Award.  Her company was named a Corporate Caring Award Finalist in 2005 by Business First Columbus and she was also recognized as the 2003 Small Business Person of the Year by the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce, where she also served as a member of the board. She is the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of The Workplace Alliance, a national association of Haworth preferred dealers. She was a member of the 2008 Small Business Council of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce as well as the Chamber's Sustainability Business Council.

A strong supporter of the community, Darla serves as the Chair of the Board of New Directions Career Center, is a board member for Recreation Unlimited, and was a member of the Haugland Learning Center board. For the past several years, Darla has hosted a private fundraising event that has raised more than $30,000 for Recreation Unlimited.

As an additional way of supporting nonprofit and charitable organizations in central Ohio, Darla started in 2004 an internal program that collects reusable furniture from clients purchasing new furnishings and distributes it to organizations in need. The environmentally friendly program, Connecting the Dots, has provided numerous truckloads of reusable furniture to more than 20 organizations, while also diverting these durable materials from the local landfills . . . a benefit to the entire community.

Darla is also a member of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), International Interior Design Association (IIDA), the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW), National Association of Industrial & Office Properties (NAIOP), Office Furniture Dealers Alliance (OFDA), U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO), the Family Business Center of Central Ohio, and the local chapter of the Women Presidents' Organization (WPO).

Darla grew up in an Air Force family, attended high school in Germany, and returned to Columbus, attending The Ohio State University. Darla and her family have resided in Columbus for over 20 years.


Dave King, Chief Financial Officer (printable version)

Dave King is part owner with Darla King of King Business Interiors, a woman-owned commercial furnishings and flooring business they formed in 1998. Dave initially oversaw the operations end of the business where he managed the service department. He worked closely with customers, manufacturers, installation teams, and contractors to coordinate successful projects.

In July 2005, he assumed responsibility for the financial and accounting operations of the business. Since then he has helped King grow from a start-up business to the multi-million dollar business it is today.

Dave is a member of the Knights of Columbus, coached boys and girls sports for more than 18 years, was an assistant basketball coach at Watterson High School, and is a regular lector at Our Lady of Peace.

Dave graduated from Ohio State University with a B.A. in Finance and has lived in the Columbus area for over 20 years. He and his family enjoy skiing, tennis, and sporting events. He is a true Buckeye fan at heart!
